City's Gold Debit MasterCards®

City offers two different types of Gold Debit MasterCards – an EMV chip card and a tap-to-pay card. No matter which card you have, you have access to the same great benefits:

  • No transaction requirements and no POS fees*
  • 24-hour access to your account
  • No annual fee

When used as an ATM card, it allows you 24-hour access to your account(s) to make cash withdrawals, transfer funds between City accounts and check your account balances. When used as a debit card, you can use it to make purchases anywhere you see the MasterCard symbol or to make purchases through the mail, over the telephone or online.

Gold Debit MasterCard® with EMV Chip

An EMV chip card comes with an encrypted microchip embedded in the card that provides an extra layer of security by making your card extremely difficult to counterfeit. Simply insert your card into the chip reader and leave it there for the entire transaction.

Gold Debit MasterCard® with Tap-to-Pay Technology

Tap-to-Pay cards use short-range wireless technology to make secure payments between a contactless (tap-to-pay) card and a contactless-enabled checkout terminal. When you tap your card near the contactless symbol, your payment is sent for authorization. There is no need to swipe or insert your card.

You can use your debit card anywhere that accepts MasterCard.

City Makes It Easy to Manage Your Lost or Stolen Debit Card

Suspend Your Card

You can control when your debit card is available for use with City’s mobile banking app. If you have misplaced your card and need time to find it or just want to turn off your card during periods of non-use, simply sign in to the mobile app and select the three bar icon on the top left to open the menu. Then, select “Preferences” and “Manage Cards.” You can then choose the card you want to suspend and select “Suspend Card.” Confirm this action by then selecting “Suspend.”

When you are ready to reactivate your card for use, return to the “Manage Cards” screen, select the card and then choose “Activate Card,” followed by “Activate.” This will turn your card back on and allow for immediate use.

Lost or Stolen Debit Cards

If your card is lost or stolen, it is important to contact City immediately. You can report your card lost or stolen by using City’s mobile app, contacting your local branch or by calling 1-833-933-1681.

To use the mobile app to report your card as lost or stolen, sign in and choose the three bar icon on the top left to open the menu. Then select “Preferences” and “Manage Cards.” Select the card you’d like to report, then choose “Report Lost or Stolen” and confirm by then selecting “Report.” Please note that once a card has been reported as lost or stolen, you cannot re-activate it using the mobile app. Please contact your local branch or call 1-888-816-8064 to request a new debit card.

City National Bank is enrolled in a risk-based 3D Secure solution that provides an extra layer of security for your eCommerce transactions. This solution supports MasterCard SecureCode.

City’s Mobile App Puts You in Control

Whether your debit card gets misplaced or you just want more control over how and when it can be used, City makes it easy. All you have to do is open your City app (if you don’t have it, you can get it free for iOS or Android) and go to Preferences. There you select Manage Cards and simply suspend the card. Right away, you can rest assured that the card is locked and cannot be used. And if you find it later or want to re-activate it, you can just go back to the app and unlock your card.

You can also use the app to report if your card is stolen or lost for good. This is done the same way, but note that it can’t be undone with the app. To get a new debit card after reporting yours lost or stolen, you’ll need to contact your local branch.

It’s as easy as that: Go into Preferences on your City app, select Manage Cards and Suspend your card if you can’t find it or just want it locked for a while, or Report it lost or stolen if you know it’s gone permanently.
